Benjamin E. Joyner, PE

 

Benjamin has over 25 years of engineering experience in forensics and structural design.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Citadel and is a registered professional civil engineer in multiple states.  Benjamin began forensics over 20 years ago and has performed over 1000 structural forensic investigations of various residential and commercial structures for insurers, attorneys, and owners.  He has inspected and reported on residential and commercial structural damage from weather, moisture, accident, fire, and flooding, as well as reported damages from moisture intrusion, construction defects, and wind and hail.  He has inspected and reported on hundreds of cases in various states related to hurricanes including Katrina, Irene, and Sandy, and has served as an expert witness in various legal cases and proceedings.  Benjamin’s structural design background includes residential and commercial structures constructed from wood, masonry, concrete and steel, including traditional residential homes, log homes, apartments, bridges and culverts, water treatment plant basins, and wooden boardwalks.  He has designed and inspected broadcast and cellular communication towers, equipment platforms and mounts, and analyzed and modified existing structures to accommodate communication antennas and equipment.  Many of these structures were located in high wind and/or high seismic regions.  Benjamin has worked in various other fields of civil engineering including soil, concrete, and asphalt testing and placement, laboratory testing of materials, pile driving and vibration monitoring, surveying, steel detailing, and transportation safety.
